A Mensa membership for gifted youth offers academic benefits:

Socially, Mensa has a Special Interest Groups (SIGs): TeenSIG and the Parents of Gifted Youth SIG. If your local group has a local GYC, they might also have local GY and parents SIGs for your group.

Gifted Youth may also volunteer and serve with their local group. Learn more about GY volunteer opportunities here.

Below is a grid of the different GY program volunteer roles along with their limitations and requirements:

As GYP volunteer, you can plan events

  • That your GY is interested in so that they can meet others with the same interests
  • That are family-friendly, open to the entire membership including members with young families
  • To share experiences and resources with other GY parents

Additional perks include a GY mini-grant from the Mensa Foundation for up to $200. If your local group allots $200 to their Gifted Youth Program, the GY mini-grant could match that amount, giving your local Gifted Youth program up to $400 to spend on activities!

How to Get Started in Your Local Group’s Gifted Youth Program

  1. Express interest to your LocSec, GYC, or Regional GYC
  2. Pass the National Office Background Check
  3. Complete the GY Program Onboarding Process
