Mensa Gifted Youth Program (GYP) events are those organized for Young Mensans by Mensa Local Groups and Regional/Annual Gathering coordinators, and the following child-protection rules apply. Gatherings of Mensans organized independently (e.g. Mensa families who meet regularly for lunch) are not Mensa events.
Every scheduled GYP event should have at least two adults, unrelated to each other, present, with at least one being a Mensa member or parent-volunteer who has completed a Mensa background check and has been approved by Mensa to supervise youth events.
Parents and guardians are always welcome to attend events. If the event involves registration and/or a cost, parents must register and/or pay. Parents and guardians are always welcome to attend events. The parent or guardian is always, at all times, responsible for their child(ren) at Mensa events.
Adults who are not related to youth participants should not assist with restroom activities or clothing changes. Youth who cannot use the restroom without assistance must have a parent in attendance.
The event coordinator is responsible for ensuring that sufficient supervision is provided for all activities. The nature of the activity, the size of the group of participants and the physical limits of the space will dictate the needs of supervision and the number of leaders.
Any event that does not require the participation of a parent/guardian of each youth requires a written permission slip.
